Trev’s Tips

Get a Grip

Just a very short Trev’s tip this month on a great product that I’d thought I’d share with you.

When it comes to packing spares into your 4wd the limitation on the variety of different things that can be taken with you on a trip is restricted by space and weight.  Consequently spare parts are one of those things that are economised on.  Funny isn’t it that you often see people carrying around very large and heavy second spare tyres but I bet many of those people don’t have spare hoses or belts.  Anyway back to the story.  Another problem is that often the spares you carry may not fit exactly the purpose that you need it for.  Of course hoses, filters, belts etc should fit to replace broken parts exactly (otherwise you wouldn’t have bought them) it is more often the generic parts that don’t fit like spare screws, nuts, bolts etc.  One of the items that falls into this category is hose clamps.

Past experience has made me realise that no matter how many different sized hose clamps I carry I’ll never have the correct size or required number for the job to be undertaken.  It was for this reason that when I saw a universal hose clamp kit in Crazy Clarks recently that I immediately grabbed a set.  What is it?  It is a package that includes a long roll of hose clamp wire ready to be cut to your required length with a number of joining/tightening clips.  It means that you’ll never have to worry about carrying an assortment of different sized hose clamps because you can tailor make your own to fit the intended purpose at the time.

At $3.95 I thought they were a bargain and a must have for my tool box.

They would be perfect for automotive repairs such   as applying muffler or hose bandages, securing   broken spotlights or roof racks or even just repairing broken camping equipment like split tent poles, broken rod holders etc.

They take up such a small amount of space and are so cheap why not get a set.  I’m sure they’ll come in handy at the time when you most need   them.
