Mussel Pool Picnic -25 Year Celebration of the Club Formation Report

The weather was made to order, a slight breeze, sunshine, no pesky insects and a temperature less than 30C. The setting was delightful. The Club were assigned a shelter with 2 tables and benches seating 16 people. The shelter was between the shady creek and the tramline with a nearby BBQ and the carpark and a well appointed ablution block close by.

This picnic day was planned as one of the commemorative events for the year marking the 25th anniversary of the formation of the Club. In 1986 the first social event organised was a picnic at Mussel Pool in order that members might bring their children and meet other Club families and forming bonds that would assist with the development of the objectives of the Club.

Currently there are 68 member families, half of whom have been members for less than three years so it was disappointing that so few of these newer members took this opportunity to get to know other member families. The dozen or so families and children and grandchildren who attended had a wonderful day playing cricket, riding on the tram, watching the tractor parade and making new friends. The father and sons bonding tram ride, with an expected stop at the lolly shop, was a great idea but the dad’s forgot to get off at the shop. “On the way back“ they said, but the tram was on a circuit that did not pass it again! Our esteemed Secretary and his bride did a little impulsive shopping and found it necessary to return during the week to collect their art purchase.

The consensus was it had been a great day.
