Trip Leader:   Chris Smith

When: 28th March 2004

Location: Mundaring Day Trip

Participants: 16 vehicles

On a beautiful crisp bright morning of Sunday March 28th 2004 a group of us (including members and guests) met opposite the Sawyer’s Valley Hotel. There were around 16 vehicles in total.

After we had all gathered we set off towards the power line tracks. We passed a very old Jarrah tree thought to be over 700 years old. It is a shame that this is now a rare sight in a world we are destroying very rapidly and it was certainly a very humbling as well as an interesting experience. Thank you Chris and Jan for directing us there.

We then drove up and down some hills along the power lines towards a stop for morning tea (on the rocks–I wish!!).

Before we stopped however some of the group decided to play see-saw on a small hill though Lester didn’t see the point (pun unintended!) and just drove straight over without any goosebump-inducing scratchy sounds, making it look so easy….once again!
After morning tea we drove to North Ledge Lookout to look down onto Mundaring Weir–the colour of the water was just beautiful and the children all had fun climbing down some rocks nearby.

We then set off to practise climbing and descending some short steep rutted hills.
That was fun till I had one tyre in the air… but we managed to get down safely after expressing some rude “excuse the French” choice words.
We eventually ended up for lunch at Mundaring Weir followed by ice-cream for the kids (including some of the big kids!)

We all had a wonderful day and once again. I thank Chris on behalf of all of us for organizing such an informative, interesting and scenic trip.
Ravi and Sachin were extremely pleased (as well as relieved) I didn’t get bogged this time.
I also thank Tony, who sat in the FRONT passenger seat of our car, for not moving to the back nor being the usual back seat driver that he can be!

It was also really encouraging to have another female driver (Diana) with us on the trip and even though she has a “real 4WD” she drove brilliantly!!

I hope our visitors will continue to come out on our trips with us and maybe even join our Club.
