Louge Brook Dam
Trevor, Rachel, Lewis, Jaimee, John, Viv, Keith, Terry, Liam, Martin, Karen, another Terry, a mate of Terry's and myself all met at the Logue Brook Dam camping grounds, it was a lovely sunny morning, not too hot.....not too cold, just right for a days 4wding. The general consensus was to follow some of the night nav tracks and find a few extra challenging spots to test our vehicles and our testosterone. Stamps & Trev gave us the run down....a bit of mud....lots of hills......there was some fun waiting for us out there. All revved up and plenty of places to go we set off to find these impassable hills and mud holes that would set our pulses racing. Our first challenge was to turn left....normally not a difficult manoeuvre in itself but today it seemed near on impossible, u-turns on the other hand were performed with the greatest aplomb. As we ventured further into the valley of greenness it became apparent that there is a myriad of tracks leading off in every which direction except straight, no wonder the night nav is held here, it is a 4WD playground to die for. Given that I was on the trip and the radio was on the comments were flying thick and fast as we all had turns in picking on each other, all in jest of course and the humorous chatter added to the moment of the day. Stamps GPS wasn't cooperating at the best of times and Trev was giving it his best shot as a back seat driver, the excuse was that everything looked different during the day....! We believed them as it was quite difficult to find our way around with all those trees looking the same as they do.
Lunch was quite enjoyable, spent on the edge of a dam in what can only be described as perfect weather and surroundings. Martin and Karen brought along 4,000 mandarins from their newly acquired farmlet, needless to say we all had our fair share of vitamin C prior to departing. We also had the customary who's got what in their vehicles demo's with a few pointers picked up by all. After lunch we
found a few more nice little hills coming down a rather steep rutted one
which presented the question maybe we should go back up it, it was decided Finally we all got back to the campsite and air-up for the trip home. To put it simply we all had a fantastic time and enjoyed the location both for the spectacular scenery and abundance of challenging tracks. Thanks Stamps and Trev for a "proper 4WD" day trip. The highlight of
the day was when Stamps lead us down this particularly steep and muddy hill
climb (Trev had helped the peel club rebuild the track on Saturday). Stamps
and his well equipped Surf negotiated it with almost boring ease, then Trev
took the unlifted Paj through with no troubles, then....then Terry with the
mighty Petrol/Gas Cruiser, lifted, Coopers and all the heave ho you could
possibly ask for in a 4WD promptly got stuck right in the middle of the
track, couldn't go forwards, couldn't go backwards. Now for those that know
me, you
wouldn't expect me to stand idly buy so in true gallery fashion I
left fly with the commentary of which Terry shrugged off by saying what
happens on the track stays on the track, but then someone asked "who's doing
the trip notes?" a sudden look of fear came across Terry's face as he
realised I had arrived last that morning. "Doesn't matter" he piped up, "I
am the editor of the magazine and I can forget to include the trip
notes"...."AH! Yes you are Terry and that will prevent 38 members from
reading about it but I am the Web Master and the world is my domain" I
chanted. Now, there was a debate about what Terry actually muttered under
his breath at that point and by unanimous vote it was decided even if we'd
heard it we probably couldn't publish it here anyway. Oh yeah I might as
well mention that everyone else went through with no problems although the
other Terry also driving a T---ta gets the rodeo bucking bronco award.
to leave that for another time so the waypoints were recorded and the
challenge remains. One thing worth noting was that Martin kept getting out
at the difficult spots and asking Karen to drive....or was the other way
around???? I can't remember but we will leave that one for discussion around
a campfire one night shall we. As time was now getting away from us we decide to meander
back to the campsite have a quick coffee and head home from there. That was
until I drove past the "Wes Hill" turn off a quick mention over the radio
and we have those u-turns happening again, after all it wont take long and
remember if you don't reverse back there will be no troubles. Well all was
going well until a Terry driving a T----ta did the right thing by Wes and
renamed the hill, which by the way is now known as "Terry's T---ta Hill"

the fact it is a long steep hill and I didn't have my camera with me at the
time Wes's photo's will remain on the front page (sorry Wes). What's that
you say this photo on the right.....yeah well I lied.
