Conto Camp Australia Day 2020

Over the Australia Day weekend we headed down to Contos campground near Margaret River. We had a total of 21 people. As most people were heading down on the Saturday everyone did their own thing with some visiting Injidup Natural Spa near Yallingup, others visiting Augusta, and Pete checking out the nearby Jarrahdene campsite which he thought would be a good place to host the next Australia Day trip. By 5pm we were all sat around having happy hour.

On Sunday we went for a drive leaving around 10. We headed through the Boranup forest to the lookout and then onto Hamelin Bay to see the stingrays.

But not before we went and bought our ice creams. The stingrays moved freely around people standing in the water who were patting them as they swam by. We then headed north along some tracks to North Point where we were planning to drive down onto Boranup beach.

The previous week we had spotted the track down to the beach on Googles Satellite Images when planning the trip with Peter Cole.

When we got there the track down to the beach had been closed off so the area could be rehabilitated.

North Point was packed with cars but luckily 5 cars were leaving or maybe they saw us and decided to leave. Anyway we had to squeeze our 9 cars in where there were 5 cars. Then we decided it would be a good time to have lunch. After speaking to some people about the closed tracks it might have been a blessing we didn’t end up on the beach as we were told it was very soft and we would probably have to let our tyres down to 5 psi.
